How the Gateway Project Impacts Our OperationS

The federal government recently awarded a $6.8 billion grant to begin digging the long-awaited Gateway tunnels. These new tubes under the Hudson River will replace century-old train tunnels into Penn Station, which are at severe risk of collapse. This necessary, $16 billion project is expected to create 95,000 jobs and significantly improve mass transit.

Construction of Gateway will require the West 30th Street Heliport to lose about half of its footprint to facilitate the staging area. These disruptions may eliminate the ability to refuel aircraft, which raises severe concerns on the facility’s ability to aid emergency and commuter flights. This will ultimately cause congestion at area heliports and deprive the Hudson River Park Trust of revenue.

Air Pegasus, Inc. is committed to being a good partner to realize the essential Gateway Project. We also appreciate our responsibility to New York City’s emergency response readiness. Our plan is to move the heliport to a barge on the Hudson River to ensure neither the project nor daily operations are compromised. This will fulfill a 15-year promise we made to move our landing pads onto the Hudson and return the land to Hudson River Park.
